A Bachelor of Engineering (Hons.) in Electronics & Telecommunications and a rank holder in the Indian Engineering Services Examination, he decided to devote his life to “that something” which came naturally from within – music in his case – and landed in Mumbai with a lot of determination and loads of faith in his talent!
And the amalgamation of these assets viz. the engineering education, single minded devotion and the hard work has brought about his evolution as a multi-dimensional musician, performing widely as a percussion player, in music sequencing, rhythm & music arranger and composer in all the genres of music, viz. film songs, background scores, music albums, ad-jingles, corporate presentations, animation movies, live shows etc., to name a few.
Conventional Film Music
As main rhythmist, he has worked with all top-of-the-line names in music industry; from Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Nadeem-Shravan, Anu Malik, Ravindra Jain, Anand-Milind, Jatin-Lalit to Jagjit Singh, Vishal-Shekhar and Pritam.As chief assistant, he has worked in the background scores of innumerable movies, ranging from the old blockbusters like Tezaab, Chandani etc. to recent hits like Shararat, Chori chori, Vivah etc.
Modern Elctronic Music
The background in engineering has armed him with that cutting edge when it comes to electronic music and sound designing and he has been taking full advantage of this during his stints as an electronic musician and a live player with all the stalwarts of modern music; from international bands like Stereo Nation to our very desi pride Gurdas Mann! He has had the privilege of playing the electronic drums live worldwide in fusion concerts and music albums with the classic and classical musical giants like Jagjit Singh, Pankaj Udhas, Vijay Raghav Rao, Bhajan Sopori etc. and of doing the fusion rhythm for Hema Malini’s world famous dance ballet “Draupadi Swayamvar”.
Western Classical Music
On the classical front – a rare commodity these days – he has been performing with many international symphony orchestras as a timpani and percussion player in operas, ballets etc.
He was selected for the reputed Symphony Orchestra of India by the NCPA through an audition held by the conductors from the Europe.
This experience has given him an upper hand in handling a big live orchestra during the arrangement and recording of music.
Responsibility To Music
He is a life member of the Cine Musicians’ Association and has held the post of Hon. Gen. Secretary in the office for seven consecutive terms. He is deeply concerned about the deteriorating condition of the live acoustic music and musicians in the film industry due to the onslaught of synthesized electronic music and is working towards regaining the lost glory of the live cine musicians through his various presentations on the national and international platforms, writing articles, encouraging music directors and music arrangers to use more acoustic musicians in their recordings and inspiring musicians not to lose hope and device new ways to co-exist with the technology. To lead by practical example, he has made it a policy to work with as many acoustic musicians as possible in the audio projects of this company.
After forming the Swing Media Spectrum, he has taken over as the overall in-charge of the music and audio side of the company.
